A matcha bowl, also known as a Chawan, is a traditional Japanese vessel specifically designed for preparing and enjoying matcha, a finely ground green tea powder.
Our Chawan crafted with meticulous attention to detail, feature a wide mouth and a deep, rounded shape, allowing for easy whisking of the matcha with a bamboo whisk (chasen).

Using your Chawan

Using a chawan, is an integral part of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
Here’s a general guide on how to use one:

• Prepare the Matcha: Measure out your desired amount of matcha powder using a bamboo scoop (chashaku) and place it into the matcha bowl.
• Add Hot Water: Heat water to around 80°C and pour a small amount (about 60ml) into the bowl over the matcha powder.
• Whisk the Matcha: Use a bamboo whisk (chasen) to briskly whisk the matcha and hot water together in a zig-zag motion until the mixture is frothy and smooth.
• Enjoy: Hold the bowl with both hands, raise it to your lips, and sip the matcha in small, steady sips, appreciating its unique flavour and aroma.
• Clean the Bowl: After use, rinse the bowl with warm water and wipe it dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Avoid using soap, as it can affect the taste of future batches of matcha.
• Proper Storage: Store your matcha bowl in a cool, dry place when not in use, ensuring it is protected from any potential damage.

Remember, using a matcha bowl is not just about making a delicious beverage but also about appreciating the art and tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony.
